There are so many people on this planet. Some claim membership of one religion or another. Some actually attend worship and ceremonies of one kind or another. Most don't attend anything except on 'special occasions', such as weddings and funerals. They just 'claim membership' of a certain faith system, as and when it suits them.
And then there are those who claim no allegiance or membership to any belief system, because they simply aren't convinced.
What to do? Why so many systems of belief, each with apparently intelligent people as members? Is there a right? Is there a wrong? Does it even matter?
In my study of religion, I have come to the conclusion that there is only one 'method' that achieves all the goals that most religions claim to uphold. Adoring the creater aka God aka the Universal Subconscious Mind aka Brahma aka Allah aka Jehovah aka the Great Spaghetti Noodle Monster....
GRATITUDE
Being thankful and showing praise is the ultimate form of worship and really the only integral part of what makes us grow as human beings. When I say 'grow', I am referring to all kinds of growth and expression, be it spiritual, material or otherwise.
This is why, instead of getting my kids to attend some weekly worship at some architecturally inspirational building, I have decided that they (and I) would do better to write a simple 'thank you card' every Sunday, to whomever we deem worthy of thanks.
My 7 year old decided to write a card to his school bus-driver. My 9 year old, decided to write a card to me, perhaps because he is grateful that I didn't get mad when he accidentally smashed an iPad to smithereens the other day. My 5-year old has yet to decide what she is thankful for. I wrote a card to my wife. Then I decided to start this blog.
I don't know. Maybe it'll catch on.
